Looking for tips on places to see and things to do in both countries, mainly in the bigger cities - Paris en Roma.
What should I eat?
Where should I go?
Where's the best place to go to get some cheap escargot?
France - mmm birthplace of beloved charty :D
Italia - Already got the important phrases downpat - Uno martini bianco per favore!!!
Am staying in the scummiest hostels - there have been reports of bed bugs. Looking forward to it :)
Also anybody know of any souvenirs I can get which aren't dinky little metal recreations of the Eiffel Tower/Colosseum. Looking for more unique keepsakes, tho am not really a souveniry person - just need to get summat nice for mum :)
One of my favourite clips ever.
Made right after the race riots in paris. So, so good (err the clip obvs not the riots).
Anybody have any thoughts on the video?
Am hoping all french people are this friendly.

tannie u are hilarious. miss u soo much. i got admitted on fri!!
re paris, there are plenty of cheap places to eat in and around the latin quarter, around st.michel's fountain. just wander the streets and u will find beautiful 3 course meals for like 10 euros. its where prayas ate snails. so eat snails.
in paris, make sure u visit montmarte, the basilica is on the top of the hill but around it is montmarte, it is where all the artists used to live (and still do)and where sylvia plath wrote some of her poems about. its a really beautiful place. i would recommend the hostel that is there - square caulaincourt (i thin thats the hostels name) it was one of the coolest hostels. there is a company in europe (u may have come acorss it already) that run free walking tours in all the major cities. i recommedn u join one, because they are really good. in paris, there is one for the montmarte that costs like 5 euros, do it!!
and whilst in montmarte, maybe pick up a painting or sketch. artists still live tehre and they have lil stores with beautiful works for sale. that could be a pretty awesome souvenier!!
italy - drink grappa!! my suggestion is that u drink the wine, for lunch and dinner. try out all the wines. its all about the wine. try to walk around rome as much as possible. its a very awesome city to wander through. there is a gelato place where trevi fountain is - eat the gelato there, i have never tasted anything better.
and im so glad that u know what a martini bianco is! its the best drink! i came back and ordered it in a restuarant here and they gave me a really stronog vodka martini, which was noting like a martini bianco. so drink as much as u can in italy. eat the pizza, the pasta - whenever u can.
ps: im very very jealous
oh above comment was from me, palii, tanya
i definitely agree about montmatre and walking tours in paris. it's near the moulin rouge which is amazing to see because there are just streets upon streets of neon lit "special interest" companies. maybe go there during the day though lol.
i loved just walking / driving around the streets because pretty much everywhere you go you'll see something awesome. don't buy food anywhere near the eiffel tower area, expensive duh.
go to bakeries. all the time. and send me a baguette and a palmier.
i'm a fan of the champs elysee, because the shops along there look incredible haha. but that's obviously not worth going out of your way for.
if you can get there chantilly has a beautiful chateau and is a really nice area to see but i'm not sure if it's very easy to access with public transport. they also have delicious cakes.
galeries lafayette (huge, and very beautiful shopping centre) is in the cultural region near the national ballet and such and from some places in there you have a great view out over the whole city including eiffel tower and sacre-coeur.
how long are you travelling for?
Oooh excitement!
Eat lots of good cheese...
Pfft, anything you see will be awesome because it'll be in Italy/France(!)
Who are you going with? Fellow au pairs, or your Dutch family?
Haha and you already know opinion of the filmclip... Justice = <3
They're touring in the US atm, but if they come back to Europe you know what you must do...
Love
xoxo
PS: don't know why I actually bother to ask question in these things, seeing as you don't respond :P (understandable of course)... but at least you know I read it :)
